The wireless sensor has multiple options available for installing onto a machine. This article will address the differences between what is available and offer guidance for deciding on which one.
Tapped
The sensor has a 18.5mm M8x1.25 bolt that can be installed directly into a drilled and tapped machine location. The benefit of this method is the sensor's temperature probe, which is positioned at the tip of the bolt, thus providing the most accurate indication of this scalar process data. However, the ability to align the three orthogonal axes of the triax vibration sensors is very challenging. This configuration is the most challenging for this reason.
Tapped with Nut Adapter
An adapter is available to shorten the depth of the drill and tap method. The nut adapter provides a spacer between the sensor and the machine. To help with alignment of the three orthogonal axes of the triax mems sensor, it is advised to use shims or an adhesive dam to install the sensor with an adequate amount of torque while maintaining the proper position relative to centerline. Installation requires a flat surface with 25mm diameter and a drill and tapped hole for an M8 bolt with 9.5mm of threading. Thread lock or optional epoxy is used to secure the sensor to 8 Nm.
Glue Adapter (Preferred Default)
The included mounting pad is the glue adapter pad. This comes preinstalled be default when purchasing the wireless sensor. The pad is torqued to the sensor to prevent unseating. It could also be thread locked for added protection. The adapter and sensors are glued to the machine as one assembly to ensure the proper orientation. Removal of the sensor generally requires removing the pad with some mechanical agitation.
Magnetic Adapter (Demo Purposes)
This looks nearly identical to the glue adapter but has little spacers (feet) that provides clearance for an adhesive to bond while a magnetic base assists in holding the sensor in place. The spacers do not support the spacing guidance of the Loctite glue recommended by Azima DLI and the magnet is not strong enough for unsupervised use alone. These adapter can be used temporarily while configuring a layout or for demonstration purposes but are not recommended for permanent use for the above reasons.
